Ivan is a man with a past, a family and more than just one problem. It appears that he is ruined, his finances as shattered as his family. His children are traumatized or gone to rack and ruin – they are just like him: Alexander is vain, Nadeshda intrigues, Lyubov is bitter. The youngest Pjotr and Wera are looking for a way out, no matter how. On this eerie path back to power and money he assumes his perhaps most successful role – that of the charismatic »man breeder«.
Using a 110 year-old Gorky text, director András Dömötör develops the playful psychological profile of the empowerment of man over man as a journey into a horror that is all too near.
