Prosa der Verhältnisse #14

The two authors Edmund White and Jayrôme C. Robinet meet in a conversation between the generations. Edmund White is an icon of gay literature: his publications (novels, biographies, essays, and memoirs as narratives of the cross-border homosexual emancipation movement), which have been published in the USA since the 1970s, question supposedly secure knowledge about gender and identity. In Jayrôme C. Robinet's autobiographical text Mein Weg von einer weißen Frau zu einem jungen Mann mit Migrationshintergrund, published this year, the author tells of his transition: as a French literary translator he came to Berlin and as a German-language author he found his way into the literary writing of queer literature of the 21st century. The actress Elena Schmidt reads from City Boy by White and from Robinet's literary tracing of his path. Deniz Utlu talks to the City Boy*s about the subversive power of literature.
