Life on the island of West Berlin. A view over the Wall. The dance performance Insellandschaften traces out the experiences of women between West Berlin and Iran in 1979. Between diaspora and revolution, Modjgan Hashemian reveals narratives which have remained invisible in the memory of divided Germany. Like islands which seemed to have long since disappeared under the surface of the water, she evokes memories of the division of Berlin and the beginning of the Iranian revolution. Ten years later, the children who fought for democracy on the shoulders of their parents in Tehran stood on the Berlin Wall to take a stand for freedom once again. Insellandschaften tells of the (in)visibilities of collective memory and sheds light on a blind spot in historiography.
A production by Modjgan Hashemian funded by the Hauptstadtkulturfonds with the kind support of Uferstudios.
