Change of Event: The relevance of Non-Alignment today
In a world deeply affected by climate crisis, nuclear threat, wars and the rise of nationalisms, there has been a renewed interest in the relevance of Non-Alignment today. Originally it was a response to the bi-polarization of the world during the Cold War with the creation of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) uniting countries and struggles against imperialism, colonialism, racism, occupation and all sorts of foreign agression. Today, we don't live in a bipolar world anymore and yet the world is still close to a nuclear catastrophe or a new world war. Thus the question of Non-Alignment also confronts us with new challenges. This timely discussion gathers leading scholars on NAM and will dive not only into its history, accomplishments and contradictions. The question of the talk with Dubravka Sekulić, Paul Stubbs and Srećko Horvat is not only what we can learn from the Non-Aligned Movement, but also about what its relevance is today.

Cancelled: »The Future Is Not Everything That Will Come« In this talk, philosopher and author Srećko Horvat discusses socialist Yugoslavia and its role in the Non-Aligned Movement with Budimir Lončar, who joined the Partisan guerrilla struggle during WWII when he was 16 years old, and became one of the most important diplomats after the war. He helped building and shaping the Non-Aligned Movement from its very beginnings and served as Yugoslav ambassador to Indonesia, Germany and the United States. From 1987-1991 he served as the last Minister of Foreign Affairs of SFR Yugoslavia and from 1993 to 1995 as the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to the Non-Aligned Movement.
