The 2022 Leipzig Book Fair honoured three books which all addressed the art of translation: Eine Runde Sache, Tomer Gardi’s novel, partly written in »broken German« and partly translated from the Hebrew; Anne Weber’s translation of Cécile Wajsbrot’s novel Nevermore; and Uljana Wolf’s essay Etymologischer Gossip, in which she attempts to take advantage of the discrepancies and imprecision in the translation process. The three award winners read from their books and talk about the poetry of translation, about the untranslatable and juggling between words, about speaking in a foreign tongue, mistakes, false friends, about sabotage and national languages.
