One of the best-known filmmakers currently working in the Armenian diaspora, the French-based Nora Martirosyan initially came to prominence with her experimental films and audio-visual installations that revolve around the director’s sustained exploration of cultural roots and their transmission. Characterized by vivid sensuality and formal elegance, Martirosyan’s films inventively synthesize documentary and staged footage to create patterns of embodied memory, which come alive as impressionist mosaics in her three early shorts included in this program.
