The emergence of an entire legion of female filmmakers in Armenia over the course of the past decade has led to a dramatic shift in the country’s cinematic history. Focusing on marginal voices and underrepresented issues, this new generation of directors boldly strips away the layers of patriarchal mytho-poetics to expose the fascinatingly complex and diverse ecosystems of the modern Armenian experience. The three short films included in the festival program are indicative of these new, critical lenses that broker a path towards healing self-reflection in the cyclical aftermaths of recent and entrenched traumas.
