Karén Karslyan

Karén Karslyan is an award-winning poet, visual artist, and a translator, with a PhD in English. Half of his six Armenian-language books are untranslatable, incl. Aterazma, a typographic film-novel (2016). English-language performative presentations of Aterazma have been made at the Coimbra University (2018) and the University of Michigan (2022). His works have been translated into multiple languages and published in journals and anthologies. He also creates word-based visual art and animated flipbooks where the characters are characters (letters and words). He received the Granish-2021 Award for Best Poetry and Young Artists Award in 2004. He was named Scandalous Writer of the Year by Armenia’s Public TV in 2003. He is the chairman of the Writers for Peace Committee of PEN Armenia. Born and raised in Yerevan, Armenia, he now lives in Janesville, Wisconsin.
