Berlin Correspondence 3

Authoritariansim – Rule or Exception?

Authoritarian movements and governments resurface – in Europe and around the world. But are they really such shocking aberrations from the progressive norm? Or is the gray area between democracy and dictatorship much more »normal« than we presume?

This Berlin Correspondence lecture inquires into the origins of authoritarian ideas of order and takes a critical look at current political developments. What role does the rise of neo-liberal financial capitalism play, and the pervasive inequality? And what does it mean when the public sphere disintegrates into separate fi lter bubbles?

Political philosopher Seyla Benhabib (Yale University) and political scientist Zeynep Gambetti (Boğaziçi University) meet at our next Berlin Correspondence to talk about authoritarian structures of order and the gray areas between democracy and dictatorship.

The event will be simultaneously translated (Ger./Engl.)

Die Veranstaltung ist eine Kooperation des Gorki Forum im Rahmen der Reihe Berliner Korrespondenzen und des Center for Humanities and Social Change der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
