Back and Force

Talk I Queer Identities in Global Struggle

This year, on April 12th, the Self-Determination Act was passed by the German Bundestag. It was a long-fought and hard-won milestone for trans, intersex and non-binary people in Germany, and yet it was only a partial success. Shortly before it passed, the use of gender-conscious language was banned from government agencies, schools and universities in Bavaria. This simultaneity of achievement and backlash is illustrative of our times. LGBTQIA+ rights and feminist achievements are at the centre of nationalist, conservative and far-right attacks and campaigns worldwide. People who take action to support the rights and visibility of queer people in politics and art discuss their experiences, ongoing battles and the need for alliances.
