Vika Biran

Vika Biran, born 1990 in Pinsk, is an author, project manager and LGBTQIA+ activist. She was a co-founder of Makeout, a journalistic project and network that dealt with gender and sexuality issues in Belarus from 2014 until its forced closure in early 2022. In September 2020, Vika Biran was arrested after participating in peaceful protests in Minsk and sentenced to 15 days in prison. In fall 2020 she moved to Berlin. Since then, she has been working as a freelance author and cultural manager. She has processed the experiences of the last two years in her autobiographical debut novel Ich tanze. Biran wrote the central part of the book as part of the artist-in-residence program of the MuseumsQuartier, Vienna. She presented the book at the literature festival Open Books 2023, Vilnius and at Buch Wien 2023.
