The Shiite rituals of Ashura consist of stories ranging from the sad to the painful, and processions in honour of the martyr Husayn, grandson of the Prophet Mohammed.
The musicians and artists Amen and Azin Feizabadi use a blend of audio and video footage that has been spread online by Iranian bloggers and citizen journalists in 2009. It is evidence of an informal coverage of the turmoils, riots and demonstrations in Iran at that time. The lecture performance scans these media for visual and narrative templates and compares them to aesthetic means and elements of the Tasua Ashura rituals.
The result is a collage of texts, theatrical gestures and mythological-religious stories that tell of everyday life in the here and now.
