In addition to the Armenians’ ongoing fight for survival in Diyarbakir, Silvina Der Meguerditchian’s installation also refers to the struggles for Sur, the largest of the four municipalities of Diyarbakır. The Turkish security authorities have imposed a curfew on this historic district since late last year. The photos of Sur, which were published by the Turkish agency Anadolu, show a devastated district. Der Meguerditchian’s work shows the traces on the sometimes historic buildings left behind by the current struggles of the Turkish security forces in the city.
