The Gorki Theater is a nonprofit contemporary art institution funded by the Senate of Berlin. The Berliner Herbstsalon is a project by Shermin Langhoff with different collaborators and co-curators in each edition. It brings together theatre, performances and exhibitions by international artists mostly based in Berlin. The 6th Berliner Herbstsalon »LOST?« started with its prologue »GEZI – TEN YEARS AFTER« in May 2023 and was followed by »LOST – YOU GO SLAVIA« in autumn 2023. It will end with an epilogue between the end of April and the beginning of June 2025. Marking the 110th commemoration of the Armenian genocide and in light of the events in Artsakh, it will center on the Armenian diaspora and create a new space for intergenerational encounters through theater, performance, art, film and literature.

We are hiring a curatorial assistant for the Berliner Herbstsalon team linking the curation team, PR team and production management, reporting directly to the artistic director Shermin Langhoff as well as the co-curators Anahit Bagradjans and Erden Kosova. The engagement starts ideally in September 2024 and ends in July 2025.

Fields of responsibilities:

  • Assist with logistical and conceptual preparations for the exhibition, film and performance programs (research, technical production, installation)
  • Establish, maintain and support communications between artists, curatorial and organizational partners in the theater
  • Take an active role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the department including coordination and communication with all involved departments
  • Assist preparing press material including writing and editing
  • Support coordination of PR and marketing campaigns
  • Assist in social media implementation
  • Organize photographic documentation and maintain digital archives
  • Answer inquiries and offer exhibition tours as necessary for visitor

Qualifications:

  • Excellent organization skills and a minimum of two year experience in an arts organization with the focus on exhibitions/film screenings/events; studies in Arts, Art History, Film or comparable academic discipline are desired
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and German; beside this Armenian Language is useful
  • Interest in the international contemporary arts scene and willingness to learn about subjects and material outside of the art history canon
  • Interest for the diversity of participants and colleagues from different cultural and social backgrounds, varying ages, language skills, and physical abilities a. o.;
  • Flexible schedule to work evenings and weekends for scheduled exhibition openings and events

The position is in part-time from September until December 2024 and in full-time from January 2025 onwards. The working schedule will adapt to the festival program timeline from end of April 2025.

Fee negotiable: Beginner's fee normally 2.715 € gross amount.
