Maidan Tagebücher / Щоденники Майдану

Lecture-Performance

During the months of the resistance we often made fires in barrels to warm ourselves. Everyone could warm and express themselves around the fires in those barrels. And everyone did.

When former president Yanukovych refused to begin cooperation negotiations with the EU and instead turned to Russia in November 2013, angry Ukrainians occupied the Maidan square. At that time nobody knew that the demonstrations, which withstood even the most brutal police interventions, would lead to the fall of the president.

Compiled by Andriy May, the Maidan Diaries recount the bloody protests with their hundreds of dead and thousands of injured. He conducted interviews in the Maidan with people from different backgrounds and professions, and compressed the transcriptions into the painful minutes of a people's uprising.

Andriy May works as a director, actor and curator of the theatre festival Document in Ukraine and Russia.
