This lecture performance is the first of three evenings and part of Shaunak Mahbubani’s program A—LIGNING THE UN—CERTAIN, which revolves around the concept of alignment in the context of political activism. At the center stands the question: What happens when we think of allyship as a form of continuous adaptive alignment in ideology and practice?
Exploring the line in drawing, construction, social relations, and syntax, Shaunak Mahbubani entangles us in newly-commissioned instructional artworks by artists who have previously participated in Mahbubani’s curatorial series Allies of the Uncertain Futures. Interrogating the boundary between self and other, the series ponders the ripples, lattices, and counterpoints that might arise when we move towards aligning.
