Ufuk Tan Altunkaya

Ufuk Tan Altunkaya was born in Germany in 1984 and received his master's degree in dramaturgy from Istanbul University. He is currently pursuing a PhD in political theater at the Free University of Berlin. He began his theater career in Izmir and worked as an actor and director in various organizations such as garajistanbul, Theater Gesnerallee, Tiyatro Kordelya, and Mekan Arti. He also taught in different institutions. He is particularly known for his site-specific productions and usually focuses on political themes. In 2010, he participated with his teammates in the founding of Mekan Arti. Since 2008, Ufuk Tan Altunkaya has been exploring different staging techniques and focusing on the relationship between actor and audience. His plays, which deal particularly with political themes, such as Not With Us about the Saturday Mothers, The Pen about thought crimes, and The Rememberence about Beyoglu, have been shown at the IKSV Theater Festival in recent years. He currently lives in Berlin and has been playing in the production Mother Tongue at the Maxim Gorki Theater since 2022, in addition to his own projects.
