Thomas Meinecke was born in Hamburg in 1955 and works as a writer, musician and radio DJ. He studied theatre studies, contemporary German literature and communications in Munich, where he founded the »Mode & Verzweiflung« magazine, which critiqued culture and society. His latest book Selbst (Self) is a widely discussed post-gender love story. Meinecke refers to himself as a feminist author and a supporter of female writing. As a postmodern writer, he deals not only with the subject of gender roles, but also with pop culture, pop music and the German, Jewish and African diasporas in the USA. Meinecke is also a musician and lyricist in the band Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle (FSK), as well as a columnist for the Berlin-based »Groove« magazine.
