Tanja Šljivar was born in Banjaluka, SFR Yugoslavia in 1988 and studied dramaturgy at the Faculty of drama arts in Belgrade and applied theater studies at JLU in Giessen. Her plays have been publicly read and produced in professional theaters in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Albania, Spain, Poland, Austria, Finland, Slovakia, USA, and Germany (DT Berlin, Schauspiel Stuttgart, Theater Dortmund, Theater Paderborn). In 2017, she was invited to the Stückemarkt of the Berlin Theatertreffen with her play Vor solchen wie uns haben uns die Eltern immer gewarnt. She also writes screenplays such as The Celts (2021) From tomorrow on, I will (2019), both premiered at Berlinale. She is interested in the role and position of the text in different media, formats, and systems of representation, and thus works in various visual arts, opera, and literature projects. She won several awards for her playwriting and has participated in writing residencies in Austria, Kosovo, Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, and Spain. In 2019, she worked as an artistic director of the drama department at the National Theater in Belgrade, about which she is currently writing her debut novel. She teaches playwriting at the University in Belgrade and has also taught at Universities in Banjaluka and Vienna.
