Steve Katona is a countertenor, composer, actor and artist from Berlin. He studied opera at the UdK Berlin and combines music, performance and experimental approaches in his work. He made his opera debut in 2022 in Jamie Man's opera Zelle: Wenn es dunkel wird, with performances in Antwerp, Valencia, Lisbon and Zug. In 2024, he sang the role of the Eel in Altersea Opera at the Biennale di Venezia, which premiered in the Nordic Pavilion.
He made his debut as a composer with his piece Strings at the Musik Installationen festival in Nuremberg. He also played the role of Hermes in Michail Marmarinos' production of Sophocles' Die Spürhunde at the Athens Epidaurus Festival in Greece. In the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons, he can be seen in Männerfantasien at the Deutsches Theater Berlin.
Katona was a scholarship holder of the German Music Fund from 2022 to 2023. In July 2024, he took part in the Académie des Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and was part of the interdisciplinary residency, in which he was active as a composer as well as a performer and singer. At the Maxim Gorki Theater, Katona can be seen as a countertenor in the spoken word opera I PITY THE GARDEN, directed by Nazanin Noori.
