Reiner Hoffmann has been the president of the Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund (German Trade Union Confederation, DGB) since 2014. Born in Wuppertal in May 1955, he began his career as a trainee in the Hoechst dyeworks. Later he went back to university to study economics and completed his studies with a master’s degree in 1982. Days that serve as reminders and warnings – such as May 8th as the Day of Liberation from Fascism and September 1st as Anti-War Day in Germany – are very significant for the eight DGB member unions. In their charter they commit themselves to espousing »a general and international controlled disarmament, for the creation and maintenance of peace and liberty in the spirit of understanding between nations.«
