Qusay Awad was born in As-Suwayda, Syria in 1995 and works as an architect, 3D artist, cultural producer, and DJ.
In 2013 Awad began studying architecture at Damascus University. In 2014 he was forced to interrupt his studies due to political persecution; that same year he received a student visa for Germany. He completed a German language course in his first 8 months and then continued his architecture degree at the Technische Universität Braunschweig.
Under the supervision of renowned architect Prof. Volker Staab, Awad completed his bachelor degree in 2019. Right after finishing his studies, he worked at the Staab Architekten office in Berlin for a year. During this period, he collaborated as a B.A. on the Bauhaus-Archiv project, at the same time, he began his M.A. programme at the beginning of 2020. In addition to his work in the field of architecture, Awad is also active as a 3D artist and works with 3D modelling and animation software. In January 2022, Awad’s first video installation was presented in Berlin as part of the CTM Festival’s Vorspiel programme.
In 2019 Awad founded the C1 collective together with other Syrian cultural producers. The collective is a self-organised group of Syrians living in the diaspora who are redefining their identity through electronic music and art.
