Paul Spittler was born in 1987 and grew up in Strausberg near Berlin. During and after his studies in literature, cultural studies and theatre studies in Dresden and Vienna, he assisted at Staatsschauspiel Dresden, Burgtheater Wien, the brut Wien, among others and as a permanent assistant director at the Volkstheater Wien. Since 2018 he has been a freelance director, infrequently also a stage designer and performer. He directs both at theatres of the independent scene, e.g. Kosmos Theater Vienna (She He Me, 2019; Mit freundlichen Grüßen eure Pandora, 2021), Ballhaus Ost Berlin (Ganz billig*, 2020) or Werk X Vienna (Das Ende der Toleranz, 2020), and at city theatres such as Volkstheater Vienna (Mugshots, 2016; Extremophil, 2017; Alles geht!, 2020).
At the Maxim Gorki Theater he is directing the theatre film DARK ROOM revisited, a first showing of the text by Jchj V. Dussel, which will premiere as part of Queer Week 2021. Paul Spittler lives in Vienna and Berlin.
