Murat Dikenci was born in Hannover and studied applied cultural sciences in Lüneburg. After his studies, he moved to Berlin to work as an assistant director and dramaturg on various productions at the Ballhaus Naunynstraße when Shermin Langhoff was artistic director. Since 2007 Dikenci has also worked as an actor on a variety of national and international film and television projects (including Berlin Station, Tatort, Young Sophie Bell) and theatre productions (such as Verrücktes Blut – Maxim Gorki Theatre, Verhaftung in Granada – Schauspiel Köln). Over the 2021-2023 seasons, he was the artistic director of Universen and worked as an arts facilitator at the Schauspiel Hannover. The first production he directed, Sesperado – Revolution of Color, celebrated its premiere at the Ballhaus Naunynstraße in 2016 and was invited to the Theatertreffen der Jugend youth theatre festival in 2017.
In 2022 he directed YAHYA HASSAN at the Schauspiel Hannover which is shown at the Maxim Gorki Theatre as well, within the series FЯEMDE POESIE?. DIE GERÄCHTEN, a production which he wrote and directed, premiered at Schauspiel Dortmund in 2023 and was invited to the Radikal Jung Festival 2024. He began his tenure as the artistic director of STUDIO Я at the Maxim Gorki Theatre Berlin with the 2023/24 season, where he also staged Fatma Aydemir's debut novel ELLBOGEN with Aysima Ergün in all roles.
