Maria Binder

Maria Binder is a documentary filmmaker. She works as an author, director and producer on the subjects of human rights, gender and racism and has produced multiple films in Turkey. Her film Trans X Istanbul was awarded with the 2014 FACE/Special Mention film award from the Council of Europe. Her other films include (selection): EREN (2023), Trans *BUT- Fragments of Identity (2015), Wer bist du, dass du sprichst? (2006) (together with Verena Franke), Hoffnung im Herz- Mündliche Poesie von May Ayim (1997). She studied sociology, politics and psychology in Marburg and Berlin and video art at the Universität der Künste Berlin.
