Maja Göpel is one of the most influential public voices in the field of environmental and climate policy. The political economist combines political sense of proportion with consistency. She calls for a gradual but ultimately radical transformation of our society in order to meet the immense challenges of climate change. As Managing Director of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU), Göpel advises the German government on ecological issues. The WBGU recently warned in a detailed report that digitisation, with its increasing consumption of energy and resources, will place a massive burden on ecosystems if it is not combined with a transformation towards sustainable consumption and production patterns. Maja Göpel teaches as an honorary professor at Leuphana University Lüneburg.
