Leonie Kubigsteltig studied cultural studies / aesthetic practice (Hildesheim) and theatre studies (Bochum), as well as contemporary dance (Leeds, UK) and movement direction (London). She initially worked as a director for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Young Vic Theatre and on London's West End. For two years she worked as an assistant and director at the Schauspiel Frankfurt, where she directed several premieres by British authors as well as devised works and participatory formats. She was the artistic director of Kabawil e.V. Dusseldorf for one year, developing community projects with organisations such as the FFT Düsseldorf and Matchbox, Mannheim. As a director for new drama, her productions have included a play by Sasha M. Salzmann for Theater Kiel, a new football work by Patrick Marber at the VFL Stadium for Theater Osnabrück and a play on war photography by Vivienne Franzmann at the MMK Frankfurt. She won the »Utopie Unbekannt« directing contest at Theater Erlangen for her adaptation of Yannick Haenel's novel The Pale Foxes.
She directed the staged reading of Oder: Du verdienst deinen Krieg (Eight Soldiers Moonsick) by Sivan Ben Yishai (as part of the International Dramatists Workshop Krieg im Frieden, wich was part of »War or Peace« Festival.
