Karl Dietrich, born in Berlin in 1992, completed his three-year training as a carpenter and theater painter at a vocational school. This was followed by a two-year traineeship as a prop maker at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz and a further two years as a permanent carpenter's assistant in the theater workshops. After that he did several freelance stage design assistantships in Berlin and, from 2020 to 2022, worked as a permanent stage design assistant at Schauspielhaus Zürich, where he assisted stage designers such as Jonathan Merz, Peter Baur and Katrin Nottrodt. For Schauspielhaus Bochum, he created the set design for the opening play Freaks, based on the novel by Joey Goebel, in the Oval Office. Together with Joel Winter, he works as a freelance stage design and scenography duo, amongst others with Guse&Pfrunder at the Staatstheater Kassel and the Berliner Ensemble and on director Kim Gabbi's diploma film. Together as Winter&Dietrich they designed the stage set for FREMD by Michel Friedman, directed by Lena Brasch at the Maxim Gorki Theater.
