Johannes Kirsten studied German and philosophy in Berlin and New York. After positions at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Centraltheater Leipzig, Schauspiel Hannover and freelance work at the Ruhrtriennale and the National Theatre Korea in Seoul, as a visiting professor of drama at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig and as curator for the festival Karussel - zeitgenössische Positionen russischer Kunst at HELLERAU - European Center for the Arts Dresden 2019/20, he has been Head Dramaturg at the Maxim Gorki Theater since 2020.
