Historian Michael Borgolte has influenced and promoted research on the transcultural aspects of the Middle Ages as no other historian in Germany. His research on the birth of Europe from antiquity take him up to current discourses in the year 2016. In this he not only deals with “Europe” as a concept of order, as a historical unit or even as a community of values, but also extracts findings from the medieval history of migration pertinent to today's developments. Michael Borgolte is a professor of medieval history with a focus on the social, constitutional and ecclesiastical history of medieval Europe at the Humboldt University of Berlin.
