Renowned political scientist Herfried Münkler combines theoretical research with active contributions to current political debates that have led him to encounters with practitioners of politics again and again. His dissertation on the founding of modern political thought in Machiavelli is considered a standard work. His extensive publications deal with Germany’s role in international relations, in history as well as the present. Herfried Münkler teaches at the Humboldt University of Berlin. His research interests include political theory and the history of ideas, cultural research, the theory and history of war, as well as issues of risk and security.
