Hrant Dink

HRANT DİNK

Hrant Dink was an Armenian journalist with Turkish citizenship and one of the founders of the bilingual weekly newspaper Agos, published in Istanbul in West Armenian and Turkish. His practice as a public intellectual concentrated on topics such as establishing neighborly relations between Turkey and Armenia, supporting the democratization process of Turkey, speaking about the events of 1915 by a new approach focusing on the surviving and converted Armenians and giving room for their perspectives. Dink had been persecuted for years by nationalist circles and the judiciary system and was shot dead in the street on 19 January 2007.
