Fatih Akin is an internationally successful filmmaker. He won the Golden Bear in 2004 with his film Gegen die Wand - Head on. After completing his film studies, he made two short films, a documentary about his parents' migration from Turkey to Hamburg and three feature films. His next major international success came with the drama Auf der anderen Seite (2007), which won the Best Screenplay at the internationally renowned Cannes Film Festival, followed by the European Film Award and the German Film Award. With the subsequent film Soul Kitchen (2009), he won the Jury Special Prize in competition at the Venice Film Festival. With his production company corazón international, founded in 2004, Akin produced his own films as well as the internationally and nationally successful films Chiko, Takva and Min dît - Die Kinder von Diyarbakir. In 2012, he founded the production company bombero international, which exclusively produces his films. The first bombero production was The Cut, which was filmed in 2013 and celebrated its world premiere in August 2014 in competition at the 71st Venice International Film Festival. In 2016, Fatih Akin made Out of Nothing with Diane Kruger and Denis Moschitto in the leading roles. The film received numerous awards, including the prize for Best Actress (Diane Kruger) in Cannes and the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film. It was also selected as the German entry for the 2018 Oscars and nominated in 5 categories for the German Film Award, finally winning in two categories. His film Der goldene Handschuh celebrated its world premiere at the BERLINALE 2019. His latest film Rheingold premiered in 2022 and reached over one million viewers. It also won the Bavarian Film Award for Best Film. His latest film Amrum, in co-production with Warner Bros. will be released in German cinemas on October 9, 2025. Fatih Akin is currently working on the documentary Anatolic Dragon about the Turkish musician and artist Gaye Su Akyol and the feature film Ghosts don't cry, which will start shooting in summer 2025.
