Etta Scollo was born in Catania. With her rich and varied repertoire, she is known as the »voice of Sicily« in Germany. Her project Canta Ro garnered her multiple accolades, including the RUTH award for »world music«. She was Elena in Goethe’s tragedy Faust II, performed by the Bremer Philharmoniker, and Alice in the opera Alice in Wonderland for the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. Thus far she has received two golden records for her music, producing and releasing 19 albums thus far.
Etta Scollo is dedicated to reinterpreting traditional Sicilian music through numerous orchestral projects with orchestras including the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, Baden-Württembergisches, Staatsorchester Kassel, Philharmonie Reutlingen and the Philharmonisches Orchester Heidelberg. She directed and produced Igor Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du soldat at Radialsystem in Berlin. Together with actor Hanna Schygulla she worked on the film-concert project Vom Mensch sein in Ausnahmezeiten in the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Strasbourg (MAMCS).
Her compositions focus on literature and poetry (including Vincenzo Consolo, Salvatore Quasimodo, Joachim Sartorius). Her latest production is dedicated to the poetry of poet Mascha Kaléko. In June 2024 President Sergio Mattarella presented Etta Scollo with the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
