Doris Uhlich is a dancer and choreographer based in Vienna. Her performances are often explorations of beauty ideals and body norms; she works with people with different biographies and physical inscriptions. Since her piece more than naked (2013), Doris Uhlich has also been working with the depiction of nudity beyond ideology and provocation. Music - especially electronic dance music from New Wave to Techno - plays an important role in her work.
In her most recent works, she explores the relationship between wo*man and machine in a multilayered way and deals with the future of the human body in the age of its surgical and genetic perfection, in TANK (2020) among others.
She has received numerous awards and prizes, including the outstanding artist award of the Austrian Federal Chancellery in the Performing Arts category in 2013, the Nestroy Prize in the Special Prize category in 2017 for her play Ravemachine and the Audience Prize in 2019 for Every Body Electric at Our Stage Festival in Dresden. Doris Uhlich tours and teaches internationally, in 2019 she was invited to the Dance Biennale of Venice and the Bienal Sesc de Dança in São Paulo, among others. Since autumn 2015 she is a lecturer at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna.
At the Maxim Gorki Theatre she works together with Marta Górnicka on Community: An App For One Person, an Intervention with performers of the Political Voice Institute.
