Dennis Ennen, born in Wilhelmshaven in 1983, studied painting and graphic design at the Hochschule Hannover – University of Applied Sciences and Arts and then stage and costume design with Johannes Leiacker, Kattrin Michel and Barbara Ehnes at the HfBK Dresden. In 2013 he began his ongoing working relationship with the Niedersächsischen Staatstheater in Hannover für Schauspiel, Oper und Ballett as a staff assistant in the costume department, then continued as a freelance costume designer. His freelance work and collaborations with directors such as Kay Link, Hanna Müller, Friederike Karig and Martin G. Berger have taken him to the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, Schauspiel Leipzig, Theater Aachen, Staatsoper and Staatstheater Hannover, Theater am Goetheplatz Bremen, Theater und Orchester Heidelberg and Theater Kiel. An in-depth artistic collaboration with costume designer Susanne Hubrich took him to the Semperoper in Dresden and to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf (artistic director: Rolando Villazón) and to the Bad Hersfeld Festival (artistic director: Stefan Huber). Since 2020, Dennis Ennen has been a member of the staff at the Maxim Gorki Theatre in Berlin as an assistant costume designer. During this time, he created the costumes for the Aktionist*innen’s projects Beyond the Bubble and Optical Illusions, as well as for Project O at the Gorki Studio as part of Queer Week '22. Since 2023, he has collaborated with freelance Berlin artist Jérôme Chazeix on joint textile works and installations. His costumes are featured on the main stage of the Maxim Gorki Theatre in Hund Wolf Schakal, directed by Nurkan Erpulat.
