Carsten Sander

Carsten Sander, born in Berlin, has been living in Hamburg since 1992 and began working as a photographer before taking up lighting design. For over 20 years he has developed and implemented lighting concepts for theatre and opera performances, events and architectural projects. As a lighting designer he has worked for Hamburg's state opera and Deutsche Schauspielhaus, Berlin's Schaubühne, Munich's Bavarian state opera, Vienna's Burgtheater, the Salzburg Festival, the Ruhrtriennale, Tokyo's Opera Nomori and many others. He has created the lighting design for directors including Falk Richter, Christiane Pohle, Angela Richter, Katrin Brack, Hannah Hurtzig and Penelope Wehrli. Together with architect Katrin Sander, he has run the planning office lichtweit.de since 2004.

Sander is now working with director Falk Richter at the Maxim Gorki Theatre for the second time – after 2014's Small Town Boy – on the production Verräter – Die letzten Tage (Traitor - The last days).
