Carolin Emcke, born in 1964, studied philosophy, politics and history. She became a freelance journalist in 2014, after working for »Spiegel« magazine and »Die Zeit« newspaper as an international correspondent. She curates and moderates the monthly discussion series Streitraum at Berlin's Schaubühne theatre and was the curator of Krieg erzählen (Narrating War) at Berlin's Haus der Kulturen der Welt in 2014. Her books have received multiple awards including the Theodor Wolff Prize (2008), the Lichtenberg Poetik-Dozentur (2015) and the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade (2016). Her latest book, Gegen den Hass (Against Hate, Suhrkamp), is a clever and passionate argument against racism, fanaticism and hostility towards democracy, and for an open society.
