Bettina Hoppe was born in Nairobi, Kenya in 1974 and grew up in the Pfalz (also known as Palatinate) region of Germany. She completed her acting training at the Universität der Künste Berlin from 1996 to 2000. After her studies she was employed at the Deutsches Theater Berlin from 2000 to 2001. She was a member of the Maxim Gorki Theatre ensemble from 2001 to 2003. The productions she performed in during that engagement include Glaube I: Die Bibel - Eine Sinnsuche in fünf Teilen (director: Bruno Cathomas), the title role in Oscar Wilde (director: Bruno Cathomas) and Handel mit Clair (director: Susanne-Marie Wrage). From 2006 to 2009 she was a member of the ensemble at the Schaubühne Berlin, where she appeared in Die Katze auf dem heissen Blechdach (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, director: Thomas Ostermeier) and Ein Sommernachtstraum (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directors: Thomas Ostermeier and Constanza Macras). She’s been a member of the Schauspiel Frankfurt ensemble since 2009. For her performance of Cäcilie in Goethe’s Stella (director: Andreas Kriegenburg), she was honoured as best actress at the Hessische Theatertage and nominated for the »Der Faust« theatre award in 2011.
