Benita Sarah Bailey was born in Thüringen and is an actress, filmmaker and lecturer. She is part of the Canadian artist collective DiasporaKidz and on the board of Schwarze Filmschaffende e.V. (Black Filmmakers e.V.). After studying acting in Berlin and International Relations and African Studies at the University of Leipzig and in Hong Kong, she works internationally in theater, film and television. she is currently developing her first feature film and a performance with Diasporakidz, which will premiere in 2025. Since July 2020, she has also been producing her own talk format @yellit on IG & YT in which she presents Black artists. For her commitment to more diversity, she was voted one of the 100 women of the year by Focus magazine in 2022 and won the DEI Initiative Award in 2024.She can be seen on TV in the title role of the ARD series Die Pflegionärin. As part of this year's Autorentage, she performed in the play Und der Himmel über uns ist sein eigenes Land at the Deutsches Theater Berlin. She is currently performing at Hessisches Landestheater Marburg under the direction of Miriam Ibrahim in JOHANN*A - STELL DIR VOR, ES IST KRIEG UND (K)EINE*R GEHT HIN. At the Maxim Gorki Theater she can be seen in BLUES IN SCHWARZ WEISS, directed by Lamin Leroy Gibba.
