Anestis Azas studied at the Theatre Faculty of the Aristotles University in Thessaloniki and at the HfS Ernst Busch in Berlin (director). He worked as assistant director and translator with Dimiter Gotscheff on The Persians of Aeschylus (Epidaurus 2009) and with Rimini Protokoll on Prometheus in Athens (Herodes Odeon Athens 2010). Since 2008 he lives and works as a theatre director between Athens and Berlin. His work as director includes classical texts, contemporary plays and play development projects.
In collaboration with Prodromos Tsinikoris he created the documentary productions Telemachos - Should I stay or should I go (Ballhaus Naunynstrasse 2013), Clean City (Onassis Cultural Centre - Münchner Kammerspiele 2016). Between October 2015 and July 2019 Azas and Tsinikoris curated the Experimental Stage [-1] of the National Theatre in Athens as Artistic Directors.
