Andrea Belfi, born in 1979 in Verona, is a composer, drummer, and electronic musician in the fields of minimal, post-classical, new, and experimental music, as well as improvisation, theater, and performance.
His distinctive sound emerges from the dynamic relationship between his fluid drumming and complex electronic soundscapes, where the manipulation of time induces a sense of stillness within progression, thus rendering it ritualistic. The foundation of his music is built on perpetually shifting rhythmic and melodic arrangements that expand into spatialized orchestral sound scenarios.
His discography spans a broad range of solo and collaborative works. He released more than ten solo albums, including Natura Morta (2014), Ore (2016) and Eternally Frozen (2023). He recorded drums for Jóhann Jóhannsson, Ben Frost, David Grubbs and IC3PEAK, amongst many others.
Andrea Belfi's works have been showcased internationally at numerous festivals and venues, such as Philharmonie de Paris, Barbican Centre, Unsound, CTM, Montreux Jazz, The Greek Theatre, Umbria Jazz and Paradiso, inter alia. In addition to his solo performances, he has toured extensively with artists such as Thom Yorke, serving as a live opening act during his world tour, Mike Watt, Matana Roberts, Marta Salogni, Nils Frahm, Carla Bozulich, Circuit des Yeux and others.
Belfi has collaborated with artists from various disciplines: He composed music for directors, such as Ulrich Rasche, Silvia Costa and Nazanin Noori, as well as fine artists such as Angela Bulloch, Monica Bonvicini, Tomás Saraceno and Rosa Barba.
