Abdurrahman Gümrükçü, *05.09.1950, came to Germany as a young man through the labour recruitment agreement between the FRG and the Republic of Turkey. Initially he made doors in the Salotherm factories in Freystadt, and later he worked in a joinery in Cadolzburg. They wanted to continue to employ him after the period stipulated in the recruitment agreement, which is how Abdurrahman Gümrükçü ended up staying in the area around Nuremberg. Today he’s active in the local SPD and gives lectures, including pictures from private archives, about his time as one of the first »Turkish guest workers«.
