Expanding on the conceptual framework of Delaine Le Bas' ongoing solo exhibition at Gorki, the panel will discuss how the language is being instrumentalised in modern societies to reproduce the already existing social privileges and mechanisms of discrimination. The participants, Christine Eyene (the curator of Le Bas' exhibition, whose research and practice focus on contemporary African and Diaspora arts and feminism), Kübra Gümüşay (the author of the critically acclaimed book »Sprache und Sein«, that concentrates on the ways in which language shapes our thinking and political life), and Marta Górnicka (a theatre director, whose projects employ the concept of chorus and the political character of the breath/ voice/ language have been hosted at Gorki several times) will reflect on the complicity of the dominant political discourse, journalism and also cultural institutions that are conceived as progressive in perpetuating hierarchical structures based on race and ethnicity.
The event will be in English.
