Die DIGITAL YOUNG CURATORS ACADEMY vernetzt internationale Künstler*innen, Denker*innen und Kurator*innen im Rahmen der Reihe 5. Berliner Herbstsalon.

Die DIGITAL YOUNG CURATORS ACADEMY ist eine künstlerische und aktivistische Plattform um Allianzen zu bilden, Gemeinsamkeiten zu erforschen und Solidaritäten zu festigen. Intersektionale Künstler*innen, Denker*innen, Schriftsteller*innen und Kurator*innen teilen ihre Praktiken auf der neuen digitalen Plattform youngcuratorsacademy.com mit einem translokalen Publikum auf der ganzen Welt. Im Fokus stehen dabei Fragen nach Care & Repair, Planetary Consciousness sowie die Suche nach neuen Formen von internationaler Zusammenarbeit und einer gemeinsamen künstlerischen Praxis. THE NEW (OLD) WORLD IN 11 ACTS, THE SUPER INTENSE MARATHON und THE DIGITAL AGORA ermöglichen unterschiedlichen Publikumsgruppen in verschiedenen Zeitzonen den Zugang zu unterschiedlichem Wissen sowie die Reflexion und Vertiefung ihrer Praktiken anhand paralleler Erfahrungen.

Kunst und Aktivismus beginnen mit Versammlungen von Menschen, die sich zusammenfinden, um zu feiern, zu trauern, zu diskutieren. Diese grundlegenden menschlichen Handlungen vermitteln sich auf unterschiedliche Weise. Vor allem aber sind sie kleine Akte der persönlichen Handlungsfähigkeit, die zu einer gewünschten oder notwendigen Veränderung in der Welt der Lebenden beitragen. Seit wir auf den Eisberg der Pandemie aufgeprallt sind, spricht die Welt unaufhörlich über das neue “Normal”. Wie wird sich diese neue Normalität auf Kunst und Aktivismus auswirken? Wie beeinflussen die Einschränkungen für physisches internationales Reisen die Praxis des Kuratierens sowie die Mobilisierung von Communities bei Zusammenkünften in Kunst und Aktivismus? Wie kann es zu Verschiebungen hin zu einer lokalen Kuration kommen und wie kann diese als vergleichende Studie für andere lokale Kontexte dienen? Können die Digitalisierung und einige ihrer Mechanismen diesen Verflechtungsdiskurs zwischen dem neuen Internationalen und dem neuen Lokalen bereichern.

THE SUPER INTENSE MARATHON

von intersektionalen Kurator*innen und Aktivist*innen

In der Tradition der Young Curators Academy (YCA) versammeln wir uns zum Kickoff-Marathon, der von allen Teilnehmer*innen der D-YCA 2021 präsentiert wird. Die Beteiligten, die im Rahmen eines Open Calls von April bis Juni ausgewählt wurden, werden auf der dieses Jahr eigens für die YCA geschaffenen neuen digitalen Plattform (youngcuratorsacademy.com) ihre Praktiken mit einem translokalen Publikum auf der ganzen Welt teilen. Zum ersten Mal wird der YCA-Marathon digitalisiert. Auf diese Weise erhalten verschiedene Publikumsgruppen in unterschiedlichen Zeitzonen auf der ganzen Welt Zugang zu verschiedenem Wissen und können ihre eigenen Praktiken anhand paralleler Erfahrungen reflektieren und vertiefen. Ohne einen physischen Ort in einer Stadt zu favorisieren, soll der digitale Raum der D-YCA 2021 translokale öffentliche Debatten anregen, künstlerische Gespräche in ihren jeweiligen Verortungen fokussieren und Intensitäten des Widerstandes stärken.

THE DIGITAL AGORA

Ein digitaler öffentlicher Raum für Politik, offene Ateliers und Workshops

Wenn wir die Gestaltung eines gemeinschaftlichen Raumes als eine soziale Praxis für die Formulierung alternativer Formen der Wissensproduktion und des Wissensaustausches verstehen, um Zugänglichkeit und Eigentum in Frage zu stellen, befinden wir uns im Herzen von der DIGITAL AGORA.

THE DIGITAL AGORA ist der antiken griechischen Agora nachempfunden. Sie ist ein digitaler öffentlicher Raum, der ein Versammlungsort für Politik, online Open Studios und Workshops in sich vereint, ein Markt für konkurrierende Ideen, ein Versammlungsort, um Beiträge von Wissenschaftlern und Künstlern anzuhören. Sie ist auch ein Ort, an dem verschiedene Aktivist*innen aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven unterschiedliche Öffentlichkeiten verhandeln, sowie eine Auftankzone für Körper und den Geist – im Grunde ein digitaler Aufenthaltsraum.

Die D-YCA betont die Bedeutung des Zwischenraums – zwischen den produktiven Dingen, die der kognitive Kapitalismus akkumuliert hat, zwischen den Welten, zwischen dem Internationalen und dem Lokalen, zwischen Anwesenheit und Abwesenheit –, um in diesem Raum des Alles oder Nichts neue Fragen an sich selbst zu stellen.

Intersectional artists, thinkers, writers, and curators share practices with translocal audiences around the world, on the new GORKI digital platform (youngcuratorsacademy.com). The focus will fall on questions of care & repair, planetary consciousness, and the search for new forms of international cooperation and joint artistic practice. THE NEW (OLD) WORLD IN 11 ACTS, THE SUPER INTENSE MARATHON and THE DIGITAL AGORA result in different publics in different time zones accessing different knowledges, reflecting on and deepening their practices from parallel experiences.

Arts and activism begin from gatherings of humans coming together to celebrate, to grieve, to discuss. These fundamental human acts communicate in different ways but most of all, they are small actions of personal agency contributing to a desired or needed transformation in the world of the living. Since we crashed into the iceberg of the pandemic, our worlds have been incessantly talking about the new normal. How will this new normal affect arts and activism in particular?  In the face of restrictions to physical international travel, how does this affect curation as well as activation of communities during gatherings in arts and activism? How can there be shifts to local curation, to open it up as a comparative study of other local contexts? Can digitalization and some of its processes enrich this interweaving discourse between the new international and the new local?

THE SUPER INTENSE MARATHON

Lecture Performance Marathon by intersectional curators and activists

In the tradition of the Young Curators Academy (YCA), we gather for the kickoff marathon presented by all the participants of the D-YCA 2021. Rigorously selected from an open call conducted in April-June, these participants will share their practices with translocal audiences around the world, on the new digital platform specially created this year (youngcuratorsacademy.com). For the first time, the YCA marathon will be digitalized, resulting in different publics in different time zones around the world accessing different knowledges, reflecting and deepening their own practices from parallel experiences. Without privileging a physical site in one city, the digital realm of D-YCA 2021 hopes to nurture translocal public debates, focus “situated” artistic conversations, and act as an amplifier for intensities of resistance.

THE DIGITAL AGORA

A digital public space for politics, open studios and workshops

If one understands the creation of commons as a social practice for the formulation of alternative forms of knowledge production and knowledge exchange, in order to  challenge accessibility and ownership, we are inside the heart of DIGITAL AGORA YCA.

DIGITAL AGORA YCA is based on the ancient Greek Agora. It is a digital public space which is a gathering place for politics, open studios online and workshops, a market of competing ideas, a place of assembly to hear statements of scientists and artists, different perspectives of activists negotiating different publics, a recharge zone for the body and the spirit, essentially a digital site to hang out.

The D-YCA emphasizes the importance of the space in between - between the productive things that cognitive capitalism has accumulated, between worlds, between the international and the local, between presence and absence - to ask new questions of oneself in this space of no-thing or everything.
