Diva Maguy was born in Tripoli, north of Lebanon, where she studied Interior Design at the Technical School of Tripoli. In 2008 she left to the capital city of Beirut, where she worked as a stylist and make-up artist, and initiated her career as a dancer and performer. During this time, she also became a prominent trans/activist, struggling for the rights of LGBT people. In 2014, Diva Maguy left the country, first to Istanbul, and in 2015 arrived in Berlin. Here, she has participated in and created a series of video dance performances, such as for every spirit seeking safety, women’s spirit inside a man’s body. In November 2015, she performed during the Herbstsalon, at the Palace of the Gorki theater, with piece Resistance for Freedom; later on, at Berlin Art Film Festival with the performance State(s) of Emergency, concerning citizens organization by Toby Ashraf, at the Kino Moviemento; more recently she was part of Refugees Carnival on the 20th of March, in Berlin, among others. Currently she is a board member at Gladt e.V., an organization supporting queer and transgender refugees, where she created the project Queens against Borders. And at the moment she is preparing a series of workshops with trans-women from Iran on gender identity and trans-femininity.
