Daniel Richter

Daniel Richter was born in Cologne. He studied Modern German Literature, Old German Linguistics and Literature, and Philosophy at the University of Bonn. He has worked as a dramaturg at the Deutsches Theater Göttingen, Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus and Maxim Gorki Theatre with directors including Nurkan Erpulat, Staffan Valdemar Holm, Falk Richter, Kevin Rittberger and Nora Schlocker . At the Berliner Festspiele, he took over the directorship of the Theatertreffen’s Stückemarkt festival for new plays in 2010 and led the Theatertreffen's International Forum component from 2015-2017. As head dramaturg he was responsible for the Theatertreffen's programming concept from 2017 to 2019, developing the international platform Shifting Perspectives within this framework. In 2017 and 2018 he assumed the leadership of the Theatertreffen itself, as a parental leave stand-in. He has taught at the University of Göttingen, the Freie Universität Berlin and the University of Erfurt with a focus on theatre dramaturgy, contemporary drama and cultural/literary management. He currently works as a freelance dramaturg.
