Berlin Correspondence: Part 8

POST-DEMOCRATIC ORDER – WHICH KINDS OF ORDER ARE STILL LEGITIMATE TODAY?

With Colin Crouch and Jan-Werner Müller

What is the future of Western democracy? The Berlin Correspondence series hosts a discussion between two international experts: British political scientist and sociologist Colin Crouch, a vehement critic of neo-liberalism and author of the best-selling Post-democracy, and German-American political scientist Jan-Werner Müller, who recently made waves with his essay What is Populism? Are we actually living in a »post-democratic« system in which PR experts in collaboration with trade associations have taken control – also over our parliaments? Is it a populist thesis or a serious warning that a large mass of the population is sinking into political apathy? Searching for answers, our guests take a look at the 20th century European history of ideas and the liberal traditions of European post-war thought.

In German and English. The event will be translated simultaneously.

Berlin Correspondence is a Matinée-Series of the Gorki Forum and the Humboldt University Berlin in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
